The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter has warned its members against attending nocturnal meetings or groupings over who or the zone to produce the next governor of the state in 2023.
Rising from a meeting in Umuahia on Friday, the party in a communique, condemned the act and therefore barred its members from attending such meetings.
Full details of the communique reads:
“In the meeting of the State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, Abia State Chapter, today, the 25th day of June, 2021, the party frowns at the various centrifugal tendencies by some groups in the State in recent times that is capable of causing disaffection in the party.
“As a result, there have been communiqué and press releases after meetings by these groups staking claims to the governorship seat of Abia State in 2023.
“While the rights to association and freedom of speech and expression are constitutionally guaranteed, the party believes that such tendencies, communiques and press releases are premature and capable of distracting the party from its resolve to build a solid, all- inclusive party structure capable of winning the 2023 general elections.
“These, also have the tendency of distracting our hardworking Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, from focusing on the gigantic and monumental projects he is executing in the State.
“In view of the foregoing, the Abia State PDP SWC, on behalf of the members of our party, therefore, resolves as follows:
