Lady Adanma Okpara Is To Be Buried Same Day Her Husband, Dr Michael, Died, Family Sources Reveal

The burial of late First Lady of the defunct Eastern Nigeria, Her Excellency, Lady Adanma Okpara, who died on Sunday, August 22, 2021, was fixed on December 18, 2021 in honour of her late husband, Dr Michael Iheonukara Okpara, Premier of Eastern Region, who died on the same date in 1984.

A source in the Okpara’s dynasty told our Reporter that the family has considered that day as a symbolic day when a symbolic star with a symbolic and titanic personality departed this world and therefore decided to mark the day with the burial of a heroic Amazon who incidentally was his wife.

He revealed that virtually all the governors of the states in the former Eastern Nigerian Region and their First Ladies that included: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Beyalsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers have indicated interests to grace the burial ceremony and honour her.

“Even governors outside the Eastern Nigeria, top politicians, captains of industries, serving and retired military brass across the nation have indicated interests to be part of the ceremony” a source disclosed, adding that the Burial Committee is working round the clock to ensure that the burial of the iconic personality is smooth and hitch-free”.

Meanwhile, the date for the interment of late Adanma, the wife of the Premier of the Eastern Region of Nigeria, was announced by the scion of the Dr Michael Okpara, Nnabuihe at Umuegwu Okpuala Afugiri in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

In a letter he sent to the Abia State House of Assembly, inviting the leadership of the House to the funeral ceremony, the family said their matriarch who was 97 before his death, will receive a befitting burial.
