Thousands of supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia State came out en masse on Saturday to formally endorse the candidates of the party vying for various positions in 2023 general elections.
The colourful ceremony which was held at the Ntigha Clan in Isiala Ngwa North attracted notable personalities from the Abia State amongst were PDP candidate for Abia Central Senatorial district, Col Austin Akobundu rtd, candidate of the party for Isiala North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal constituency, Prof Anthony Agbazuere, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt Hon Christopher Enweremadu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahaiwe amongst other personalities.
Speaking at the event, Col Akobundu rtd described the people of Isiala Ngwa as a unique people who have given out their best to the upliftment of not only Abia State, but Nigeria in general and assured them that they will be rewarded.
He stated that the three local government areas of Ngwa extraction in Abia Central will always be supported by their Ikwuano/Umuahia brothers because they are reliable and have continually given to their support to their Ikwuano/Umuahia neighbours.
He added that it is the agreement of their Ikwuano/Umuahia that their son, Prof Uchenna Ikonne, the PDP candidate from the Isiala Ngwa extraction, should elected as governor of the state in 2023.
The Minister of Defence described Prof Ikonne as a renowned administrator and credible candidate whose track record of performance are sterling, pointing out that if given the mandate as governor, he make the state’s economy one of fasting economy in Nigeria.
In their contributions, the PDP candidate for Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Prof Agbazuere and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Ahaiwe urged the people to come en masse during the elections next year to support all PDP candidates, even as they requested them to shun people who left the party because of selfish desire to continually dominate the people.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said the rally was organized in Ntigha to keep the people abreast with the political happenings in both the state and the nation at large and stressed the need for them to shun political jobbers who may lure them to dump the PDP.
