In his amiable nature to empathize with the people in whatever condition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abia Central Senatorial district in 2023 elections, Col. Austin Akobundu rtd, on Wednesday paid his last respect to a fallen PDP chieftain and National Vice President of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), High Chief Sunny Nwakodo.
The burial rites which took place at the late Nwakodo’s country home, Umuana Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, attracted the low and the mighty in both politics and transportation of Abia state and beyond.
Accompanied the PDP Abia Central Senatorial hopeful to the burial of Nwakodo included members of Austin Akobundu Campaign Council amongst them were: the State Commissioner for Intergovernmental Affairs, Chief Obinna Okey, Hon Onyemachi Onuigbo, Pastor Ekeleme Ekeije, Deacon Joel Nwosu, Hon Uche Nwosu and others.
Other prominent dignitaries that also paid their last respect to late Sir High Chief Sunny Nwakodo who is also the immediate past of chairman NURTW in Abia State were: Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Governor of the state and Senator representing Abia Central, Senator T A Orji and his wife, Chief (Mrs) Mercy Odochi Orji, Deputy Governor of the state, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu and the PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Eleazar Uche Ikonne asa well as many other personalities.
In his funeral oration at the St. Thomas Anglican Church, Umuana Ndume Ibeku, Umuahia, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, urged the bereaved family to remain strong in the Lord and prayed that such deaths at a younger age should not befall the family again.
Senator Orji, who spoke earlier, described the deceased as a reliable fellow who did not renege in his commitment to serve the state.
Indeed, tributes that poured in for the fallen PDP chieftain included one from the family signed by his son, Kelechi, the PDP candidate for Umuahia East State Constituency, said he was a pillar in politics and that his doggedness and support to the people were unparallel.
Aged 60, late Sir High Chief Sunny Nwakodo was, after the funeral service, committed to mother earth at his country home, Umuana Ndume-Ibeku, Umuahia North of Abia State.
