Former Minister of Defence State and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Abia Central Senatorial district in 2023 elections, Col Austin Akobundu rtd, has commended Olokoro women in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State for providing an opportunity for their youths to acquire knowledge on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) within the periphery of the clan.
Speaking during the 38th August Conference/Fund Raising for an e-library at Olokoro Central School, Ahiaukwu Olokoro on Saturday, the Abia Central Senatorial hopeful described the e-library centre as a development oriented project which should be encouraged because it is capable of diverting the youths from crimes and criminalities and making them to become useful citizens as well as computer literates.
He asked the women to remain faithful to the ruling party in the Abia State by supporting the PDP in 2023, even as he assured them of the party’s support and assistance to enable them give their children the best.
In his comment, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji vowed that PDP as a party will henceforth engage in participatory governance. He therefore asked the women and others in the state to support the party in its efforts to improve their lots.
Many eminent personalities were recognized and given various Awards during the 2022 Olokoro Conference, chief amongst them were the Speaker’s wife, Dr Onyinyechi Chinedum Orji and former Commissioner in the state, Sir Tony Ezebuiro.
At the event were: the PDP gubernatorial candidate on Abia State, Prof Uchenna Ikonne, represented by his running mate, Hon Okey Igwe, Pastor Emeka Inyama, DG, Austin Akobundu Campaign Council. Earlier, Akobundu, Orji and Ikonne unveiled some brochure by the Olokoro women and donated handsomely to them to help them to properly equip the e-library.
Meanwhile, the PDP candidate on Saturday assured the women of Oloko in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State of his readiness to assist them in their developmental efforts, pointing out as a progressive minded person; he will not relent in bringing development to Oloko and Ikwuano.
Addressing the women of the Oloko Community during their 2022 August Meeting at Oloko Civic Centre, the former minister lauded the women for taking it upon themselves to empower the less privileged in Oloko Community this year.
While making a handsome donation to them, the PDP Senatorial candidate reminded the women that he had variously assisted them in the past, citing the town hall he facilitated as one of his numerous benevolence to the people and the Oloko Community.
The former minister, a son of the soil, was decorated with an Award as a true son of Oloko, Ikwuano by the women, even as many other dignitaries that graced the occasion equally received various Awards.
The former minister also made some stopovers in some events where he appreciated them.
