There was mild drama at the Nnamdi Azikiwe’s International Airport, NAIA Saturday morning after trip by Chief Whip of the Senate and former Gov governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to Maiduguri was canceled over a purported technical hitch.
The reasons for the trip remain largely unclear.
However, shortly after that an aide to Kalu said he had scheduled a solidarity visist to Borno for both political and personal reasons.
But another source hinted that the visit might not be unconnected with the wedding ceremony of the son of Kalu’s bosom friend, Dr Lawan Bukari, a former registrar of University of Maiduguri(UNIMAID).
Dr Lawan, according to Information available to the Witness, was the Dean of Student Affairs of University of Maiduguri when Kalu was a student.
But there were also suggestions the former governor had scheduled a visit to Babagana Zulum, Borno governor, as part of Goodwill visit to him over incessant attacks on him by insurgents.
Repoters sighted Senate Chief Whip Saturday morning at the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. However, Kalu’s flight became stalled after one of the engines stationed to ferry him and his entourage to Maidugiri failed to start.It gathered that following the Pilot’s advice, the former governor and his team had to disembark from the aircraft and head home.
Among Kalu’s entourage were : Senator Abubakar Kyari , Dr Daniel Kanu, Alhaji Mustapha Habeeb, Hon. Usman Zannah, Hon. Ibrahim Bukar Mohd, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, Hon. Obinna Oriaku among others.
