The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested and detained a former Commissioner for Finance in Abia State, Mr Obinna Oriaku over the alleged misappropriation of N22B Paris Club Refund to the state.
The former Commissioner is being questioned over his role in the disbursement of the money without authorization from the State Executive Council (State Exco).
In a formal letter of Invitation to Oriaku, the EFCC asked him to appear with relevant documents to shed light on circumstances surrounding the squandering of N22Billion.
In the letter dated May 25,2021, with reference number CR…300/EFCC/ENZ/CMIF/TA/352/..2000/Vol15;94, Oriaku was directed to report at the Commission zonal office in Enugu.
It was learnt that the inability of the former Commissioner to make himself available led to a manhunt on him.
According to informed sources, Oriaku was finally arrested on Wednesday and is currently being detained at the Zonal office of EFCC in Enugu.
It was learnt that officers assigned to the case are insisting that the former Commissioner would be in the custody of EFCC until necessary.
The Zonal head of EFCC in Enugu, Mr Oshodi Johnson did not pick his phone when his official reaction was sought over the matter.
