Abia State Police Command says it is awaiting further information on the alleged forgery and extortion leveled against a director in the Abia State Ministry of Education, Wogu Alozie.
Wogu Alozie was alleged to have forged and extorted huge sums of money from pupils and students of Primary and Post Primary Schools in the state, a development that led to his arrest and detention.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, a Superintendent of Police, told the Witness Magazine in Umuahia today, Monday, August 2, 2021 that his office has not been officially communicated on the incident, adding, “as at today, this office is yet to know anything about it except the radio announcement which me and you heard”.
His word, “If I have any information on the matter, I’ll communicate to you, the press, but for now I’ve not received any signal concerning the matter; therefore, I cannot brief you on what I know nothing about”.
However, a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor Anthony Agbazuere earlier in the day, said the governor was greatly appalled that one Wogu Alozie, a Director in the Ministry of Education wrote letters to Primary and Secondary Schools in the State, collecting ₦500 from every student without the approval of the Governor
The statement reads, “Abia State Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D. is greatly appalled that one Wogu Alozie, a Director in the Ministry of Education wrote letters to Primary and Secondary Schools in the State, collecting ₦500 from every student without the approval of the Governor.
“The said Wogu Alozie who signed for the Permanent Secretary without the consent of the said Permanent Secretary, has owned up to the illicit act and is presently with the Police to completely unmask the syndicate.
“All those who pad salaries, hide under the cover of government to defraud people or engage in other forms of corruption are advised in their own interest to have a rethink or be prepared taste the sour waters of the law”.
