…Details Of Her Gruesome Murder, The Role Of The Alleged Assailant And The Police Action
…It’s Revealing!
Family, friends and professional colleagues of late Queeneth Alozie, the vivacious wife of late popular Umuahia-based medical doctor, Brown Alozie of Obioma Specialist Hospital, Umuahia who was allegedly brutally murdered by one of her aides, Victor Mark are worried over the delay in the prosecution of the suspect/suspects so that the body of late Nurse Queeneth would peacefully be laid to rest.
According to them, the delay by the police in concluding investigations and subsequent prosecution of the case in court are putting a cog in the preparation and subsequent burial of her remains. They expressed fears that the police appeared to have kept mum over the matter since Queeneth was murdered in cold blood in her residence at Enyinnaya Ogbulafor Drive off BCA Road, Umuahia on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
However, investigations by our Reporter show that Victor Mark who allegedly butchered late Nurse Queeneth, his boss in her kitchen in her duplex around 8:30am, was later arrested 48 hours by the police after the ugly incident occurred and detained at the State Central Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia.
But the latest information suggests that Victor Mark, the prime suspect, has fled to an unknown place thereby stalling further investigations and prosecution. The suspect was among the detainees that escaped lawful custody on May 28, 2021 when unknown gunmen attacked and razed the State CID in May 28, 2021.
The gruesome murder of Queeneth Alozie, who retired as Matron at the Federal Medical Central (FMC), Umuahia attracted condemnation and public outcry from well meaning Nigerians. Her colleagues at the FMC described it as heinous and barbaric, while some doctors she worked with said it was callous.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, two days after her gruesome murder, Nurses and Midwives in Abia State under the aegis of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Abia State Council staged a peaceful demonstration at the FMC, Umuahia over her brutal killing by unknown assassin. They called for the immediate arrest and subsequent prosecution of the assailant
Background of the Crime Suspect
Sources within the police circles said Victor Mark, before his escape, had made useful statement to the police. It was gathered that the suspect who is from Mbaise like the late Queeneth lost his father and mother at a tender age.
Late Queeneth, before her marriage to late Dr Brown Alozie of Umuda-Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA was from the famous Nwaturuocha family of Mbaise. She retired from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia in 2017 and took up the headship of Obioma Specialist Hospital, Umuahia which her husband founded after his death in 2016.
How Victor Mark, the Alleged Assailant, Came Into Obioma Hospital/Alozie’s Family Circle
It was gathered that the immediate younger brother to Victor Mark’s father who was supposed to be his guardian allegedly became a thorn in his flesh because of some family inheritance, lands and other valuables. This, our sources stated, led to series of spiritual attacks on him (Victor Mark).
When that failed, the uncle, it was alleged took another route; reporting him to the police on trump up charges, ranging from robbery, assault, raping to voodoo, kidnapping etc. As a result of this development, Victor Mark became a regular visitor to police cells in Mbaise and Owerri, the Imo State capital.
It got to a time when secret plans were hatched to eliminate him because he is the only son of his late father. A relation of his, who lives in Umuahia, got wind of the alleged plot and decided to help out. Sources said he alerted Victor Mark of it and also informed him that he had secured a security job for him in Umuahia.
Victor Mark left Mbaise to Umuahia in July 2018 and got employed in the Security Firm. The relation became his Guarantor. Victor Mark was posted to Obioma Specialist Hospital as gateman by the Security Company. There, he was introduced to late Nurse Queeneth. And both knew each other as Mbaise indigenes.
However, Victor Mark’s queer mannerism made other staff in Obioma Hospital to put him on a watch list. He stayed on his own and rarely communicated with other staff and security guards and even cooked at odd hours and in authorised places, areas which the hospital’s management forbids people (staff and patients) from cooking in.
Apparently because of the lineal relationship with the late Queeneth, who was chief executive officer (CEO) of the hospital, some of Victor Mark’s misdemeanors were not punished neither was he suspended as madam will always say ‘leave him’. Unlike other security guards posted to the hospital by the Security firm and even staff of the hospital, Victor Mark was treated as a “special staff”.
In December 2019, Victor Mark disappeared. The hospital tried to ascertain his whereabouts from his employees, the Security firm in turn also told the hospital to look for him because he moved away from their midst. The CEO of the hospital, Queeneth, it was learnt, personally wrote an official letter to the Security Company, where she rebuked its management for dereliction and asked them to ensure that Victor Mark was found. She condemned the way and manner their supposed employee’s disappearance was handled, stressing that it was not the appropriate way to handle such staff matters.
However, Victor Mark reappeared in November 2020 at the Obioma Hospital. The bewildered staff and his fellow security guards were regaled with some windy stories of how the same uncle demolished his father’s hut and began to erect a building on the same spot. He told them that on getting this information, he rushed home to find out from the uncle why he should convert his only inheritance to his private use.
The uncle, he claimed, invited the police who arrested and detained him at the State CID, Owerri for over nine months. This story, it was learnt was dismissed by his employers, the Security firm, which subsequently sacked him and informed the hospital management so. After his sack, Queeneth directed the manager of the hospital to employ him as she regarded the action of the Security firm as draconian and also an affront.
Victor Mark was asked to produce a Guarantor who would stand as Surety, but for two weeks, he couldn’t come up with any. The late Queeneth insisted that Guarantor or no Guarantor; Victor Mark must be engaged in Obioma Hospital. Based on this, the management mounted pressure on him to produce a Guarantor so that a file would be opened for him. In first week of March 2021, he introduced a man he claimed was a relation of his that lives in Agbama axis of Umuahia as his Guarantor.
The Guarantor signed the dotted lines and Victor Mark became a staff on probation. His duties included manning the gate and other sundry matters in both the Obioma Specialist Hospital and CEO’s residence. At her residence, the prime suspect was treated like a VIP as he was given food as a member of the household.
Reports indicated that late Nurse Queeneth took him as a younger brother and indeed gave him the treatment as she would to any of her three children studying in the United States to the worry of other staff. Instead of cooking his own food, Victor Mark enjoyed the privilege of eating the food from Madam’s kitchen. Indeed, Queeneth’s benevolence did not debar him from nursing deep animosity against the woman. One of the security guards said Victor Mark believed that the management of Obioma Hospital or late Madam Queeneth would have inherited the amount allegedly owed him by his former employers.
