In response to the wishes and aspirations of his numerous supporters, frontline governorship hopeful in Abia State and one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pro Greg Ikechukwu Ibe, has formerly dumped the PDP and joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
This, he acknowledged, is to obey the deluge of calls by his numerous supporters across Nigeria aimed at actualizing his dream of governing the state.
Announcing this in a news conference at his country home, Amokwe Uturu in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State on Sunday, Ibe stated that the development was borne out of the fact the PDP has shown that it would not guarantee the principle of fairness, inclusiveness and equity during the forthcoming primaries.
His word, “I had believed that PDP would present me the platform to first emerge governor and then go on to provide the needed partnership in the task of rebuilding our state. Events of the past few weeks have however proved me wrong thereby necessitating a change of direction.
“Having therefore failed to secure the desired conducive environment within the PDP that would guarantee fairness, inclusiveness and equity, while ensuring the prime place of competence and performance in the act of political governance, I was left with no other choice than to look elsewhere.
“Therefore, after extensive consultations and in response to the general aspirations of Ndi Abia, I hereby wish to formally announce my resignation of membership of PDP, effective from 30 March 2022. This development has already been communicated to my party via an official letter delivered and acknowledged by the chairman of Achara Mbaugwu Ward 7 of PDP, my former party.
“Going forward, I have also in response to the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of Abia State taken membership of APGA and subsequently gone ahead to obtain both expression of interest and nominations forms to contest the office of the governor in the 2023 general elections.
The aspirant therefore requested APGA to grant him and his numerous supporters who desire to contest different offices in the 2923 general elections waiver to enable them vie for the elections, adding that all lovers of fairness, equity, fairness and justice who also desire the progress of Abia should join him in APGA”.
He described Abia as a well endowed state, pointing out he,, Prof Ibe as a well known researcher and international consultant appreciated the numerous natural endowment of the state in the areas of deposits and human capital, saying “I’m fully convinced of the prospects the new Abia portends going forward”
