The immediate past National Organising of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Col Austin Akobundu rtd, has said that the Southeast geo political zone has begun consultations across the five geopolitical zones of the country to tell the other regions the need to cede the presidential ticket to the Southeast on basis of equity, fairness and justice.
He stated this on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in his Oloko country home in Ikwuano, Abia State as he sought the consent of his people of Oloko Ward 1 and Oloko Ward 2 including Ikwuano Stakeholders to vie for the Abia Central Senatorial district seat in 2023 election.
Fielding questions from journalists later, Akobundu who was also a former Minister of State (Defence), under former President Goodluck Jonathan, said the consultations would likely get favourable result.
The former Minister of Defence (State) who addressed the people of Oloko under banner of the PDP, declared that the business of politics is all about consultations, adding “I join other leaders to work, liaise and appeal that the Southeast should be given the opportunity”.
Akobundu disclosed that he is aspiring to go to the Senate to take over from the incumbent, Sen. T A Orji whom, he said, has done well “with projects scattered all over the Senatorial district”.
“I want to use the platform to drive development and to spread democracy within the six LGAs of the Senatorial district and build on what he, Sen. TA Orji has done. I am his son in this business and in life, it is the wish of every father that his son should surpass him”.
On zoning of governorship seat to Abia Central and Abia North Senatorial districts, the former Minister stated that he will rely on the position of the party which he said is supreme, saying that he believes that any agitation from any quarter or group will be solved by the leaders of the party at the end of the day.
Speaking during the occasion, the Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Council, Chief Steve Mpamugo, and Admiral Ralph Osondu rtd, described retired Col Akobundu as a thoroughbred politician, goal getter, reliable personality and dedicated party man who will deliver if elected as Senator.
In the same vein, the member representing Ikwuano at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Stanley Nwabuisi as well as the Ikwuano PDP Chairman, Chief Obioma Igwe and Prof. Mrs Roselyn Ndimele, challenged the people of Ikwuano to give massive support to the aspirant.
Highlight of the event was a resolution moved by the lawmaker for Ikwuano State constituency, Stanley Nwabisi and adopted by the people to give him their support towards actualising his ambition of becoming a Senator from 2023.Uche Nwosu is a two time Shell Petroleum PLC award winner in the year 2000;
