Jubilations In Umuda Ohuhu As Okonjo-Iweala Is Elected WTO DG

There were wide jubilations in Umuda Ohuhu, Umuahia North local government area of Abia State on Wednesday when the news of election of the former Nigerian Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonji-Iweala as director general, World Trade Organization (WTO) was announced.
Okonji-Iweala is married to the community as her husband; Dr Ikemba Iweala is a prominent son of the community.
Cable news has it that, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s ex-finance minister and nominee for the office of the director-general of WTO, emerged on Wednesday as the winner of the highly competitive race.
The former minister according to TheCable, polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her South Korea’s Trade Minister opponent, at the final stage of the race.
She will be the first African as well as the first woman to occupy that office.
Speaking in Umuahia, the former President-General, Umuda Welfare Union (UWU), Sir Chris Onwuegbu said the election is good for Nigeria and Africa and black race.
“The whole world has been told that Nigeria is full of good, reliable, quality and talented men and women who can provide quality contributions to the world. Her election to lead WTO has sent a strong signal to the world that Nigeria nay Africa has come of age and that good thing can come from Africa.
“It also shows that the Igbo race and indeed the Igbo have the capacity to steer Nigeria out of its present economic woes and translate it into an Eldorado.
“It indicates that the Southeast can give Nigeria excellent leadership, particularly now that there is clamour for President of Nigeria from Southeast extraction.
