Bende LGA Stood Still As Over 3,000 Members Of APC, APGA, SDP Tear Parties’ Cards And Join PDP

Bende LGA of Abia quaked on Friday as over 3,000 card-carrying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Bende local government area of Abia State tore their parties’ cards and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The event, which took place at the Practising School Uzuakoli, saw the decampees, drawn from the 13 political Wards in Bende LGA, pledging new allegiance to the PDP after tearing their former parties’ cards at the venue. They were received by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the state officials of PDP who subsequently handed over PDP’s cards to them.

In a speech while welcoming them into the PDP’s fold, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu described them as insightful and honest; pointing out that for them to have admitted that PDP is the only party that gives the people the dividends of democracy shows that they are sincere and ready to join in the good works of his government. He therefore assured that their interest will always be protected.

The Abia chief executive, who was represented by the his deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, maintained that their bold step in joining ruling party in the state will not go unrewarded, adding that all the rights and privileges being enjoined by other members will unconditionally be extended to them.

He restated the resolved of his government to replicate the tremendous transformation and infrastructural development currently going on in Aba to Bende and other parts of Abia State.

The Abia governor urged them to ensure total victory for PDP in 2023 general elections, saying that they should take it as a great challenge that must be surmounted. According to him, having been accepted as full-fledged members of PDP, they should embark on soul winning in all the nooks and crannies of Bende in order to make the local government a PDP controlled council.

State PDP Chairman, Chief Asiforo Okere who spoke at the event, described their decision to join PDP as reassuring and insisted that they will henceforth begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy from the party. He was represented by a chieftain of the party, Gabriel Elendu.

The member representing Bende South State Constituency, Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi, and Chairman Bende LGA, Chief Emmanuel Onwuchekwa, who also spoke said PDP is a party that believe in equity, stressing that the party’s umbrella accommodates all irrespective of where you come from.

Also contributing, the Deputy Chairman of Bende LGA, Mr. Promise Uzoma, former Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs Loveth Ojo Adimoha, Chief James Okpara, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma, Chief P.C. Mba, a PDP Chieftain Chief Iheanyi Chinasa and Chief P.C. Onyegbu while unanimously welcoming the decampees to PDP described it as a democratic party which every right thinking Nigerian should join.

They assured that the party will not fail to take back Bende LGA from the grip of other political parties come 2023.

In their various remarks, the leaders of the decampees, Mr. Alaeligwe APGA and a chieftain of APC, Prince Emeka Igwe as well as APC woman leader, Mrs Mercy Abraham said they decided to join the PDP because of the tremendous performance of Governor Ikpeazu tagged “Kinetic Reengineering of Abia State” and noted that through this, Abia has witnesses remarkable development in all facets.

The event which featured the formal renouncing of their membership of their former Parties by the decampees attracted the presence of top government officials and PDP chieftains from Bende LGA.
