The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), says it commenced an orientation programme for beneficiaries of its various agricultural loan packages in order to properly equip them to become employers of labour rather than job seekers.
The agency, according it, will also in this year, 2022, engage in Agricultural Extension Training programmes in Abia State.
In a speech at the event commencing the training programme held in Olokoro Clan, Umuahia South L.G.A of Abia State, the Director General of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, represented by the State Coordinator of NDE, Abia State, Mr Chima Uzoma Ibeh, urged the beneficiaries to take the trainings seriously in order to realise the objection.
He stated the ₦100,000 loan package per beneficiary out of the 100 loan beneficiaries in Abia State should be put to good use in stepping up the fight against unemployment.
Addressing the beneficiaries also, the head, REP, NDE Abia State, Mrs Stella Chukwuekezie, implored the Agricultural Extension Training beneficiaries to be diligent in attending the trainings, explaining that attendance records will be taken during the five-day intensive training period.
She also reminded the loan benefiaries that the loan packages which are to be repaid under single digit interest rates should be utilised for the purpose it was meant for.
In their responses on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Wisdom Nwogwugwu, an agricultural loan beneficiary and Mr Wisdom Anunodu, an agricultural extension training beneficiary, appreciated the agency as well as the federal government for their dogged fight against unemployment through the various schemes of the directorate.
