The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Abia State Command is beginning to count its losses as many vehicles including front desk office, the computer room, and some offices habouring sensitive materials were burnt Saturday night as unknown gunmen attacked its headquarters by 9:30pm.
An official of the service said it loss could be in hundreds of millions, adding that they are yet to determine what was actually lost. The Nigeria Immigration Service, Abia State Command is located at Ubakala, Umuahia axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
A source in the service affirmed that the loss was actually huge. However, as at the time of filing in this report, the service was yet to determine if there was any casualty as a result the attack as some of its men were on guard as at the time of the vicious invasion.
“It’s uncertain if normal business activities will commence in the service any time soon because some of the equipment were damaged beyond repairs”, he added.
Similarly, passport unit, passport controlled office, ICT room etc are also affected. Burnt files were seen scattered all over the place, including vehicles in the premises owned by its clients.
Efforts to get the reaction of the State Comptroller or the Public Relations Officer of the Command proved abortive.
