The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Christopher Isiguzo was Saturday unanimously endorsed by the Abia State Council of the Union as the Union’s boss and his entourage concluded their campaign tour of the 36 states including Abuja, the Federal capital Territory (FCT), in Umuahia at the weekend.
Isiguzo’s campaign train tagged “Greater Heights” landed in Umuahia, seeking for his reelection as well as other team members during the Triennial Delegates Conference of the union slated for Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in Umuahia Abia State capital.
The Council, through a motion by its former chairman, Comrade Hyacinth Okoli and supported by the chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ Abia State Council, Comrade Obinna Ibeh wholly adopted Isiguzo as its sole candidate at the October 5, Congress.
Christopher Isiguzo is seeking a reelection after three years credible performance in an office he defeated the incumbent in 2018 when he was seen as an underdog. As at now, the NUJ boss is getting more endorsements from many State Councils across Nigeria, making the contest a likely run over for Isiguzo and his team on October 5, 2021.
Those who are likely to sail through with him include: Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi who seeking to occupy the post of Deputy National President, Dele Atunbi contesting for National Treasurer, Samuel Dada, vying for National Financial Secretary and Ladi Emmanuel contesting for National Internal Auditor amongst others.
Isiguzo, at the Press Centre Umuahia, spoke boldly of his achievements in the three years of renaissance of the union, naming them to include: Rescue Mission to Media Houses in the country, ensuring safety of journalists around the nation, facilitating a Media Migration Workshop by Google, organising a virtual training for journalists during the peak of the COVID-19 era, production of NUJ Identity Card among many others.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Greater Heights Campaign Organisation, Comrade Amos Dunia, described Isiguzo as an NUJ President that deserves a second a second term because “he has performed exceptionally”. He added that Comrade Isiguzo has repositioned the union to meet with the challenges of the 21th century.
Dunia lauded the members of the Abia State Council for endorsing their son and assured them that he (Isiguzo) will not disappoint them. The meeting, which was presided over by a national officer of the union, Comrade Bonny Okoro was climaxed by the handing over of some documents detailing the achievements of the National President to the members of the Council.
