A’Court Verdict Affirming Ozigbo As PDP Anambra Gov’ship Flag Bearer, Peter Obi Says It’s Time To Win Voters

Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and Vice Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 Presidential election, has hailed the Court of Appeal judgment confirming the candidacy of Mr Valentine Ozigbo as the party’s nominee for the November governorship election.

Obi, who witnessed the court session today, September 4, 2021 said: “I sincerely thank the President of Court of Appeal and her team for restoring order and civility within the polity, so that our political party, People Democratic Party (PDP) and her rightful candidate Mr Valentine Ozigbo can move on with his campaign of selling himself to voters based on issues.”

The lead Counsel to Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Mr Alex Ejesieme, SAN, had argued in the appeal that the judgment of the Awka High Court delivered by Justice Nwabunike was faulty because it was based on a judgment by a Federal Capital Territory High Court which the Court of Appeal had voided.

In its ruling, the Court of Appeal affirmed Mr Valentine Ozigbo as the only candidate for the PDP in the forthcoming November gubernatorial election in Anambra State, adding that Ozigbo was duly elected by the party, even as it described Ugochukwu Ubah as a meddlesome interloper.

The panel of Justices presided by Honourable Justice Dongban Mensa, also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to immediately publish Valentine Ozigbo’s name as the candidate of the PDP its website.
The Appeal Court therefore awarded a cost of N10 million against the Senator Ugochukwu Ubah for being a meddlesome interloper.

By the judgment, our Reporter noted, the Peoples Democratic Party will now launch its vigorous campaign for the governorship seat of Anambra State.
