Ohafia community stood still at the weekend when the three clans of Abiriba Enachoken, Nkporo Ezeaja and Ohafia Udumeze Atitiakpo hosted consultative meetings with the founder and Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), Prof. Greg Ikechukwu Ibe.
Prof. Ibe continued consultations with communities and relevant stakeholders across the state as he expresses interest to run for the governorship seat.
During the meeting, Prof Ibe who is also an aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), used the forum to enumerate various achievements he has recorded in Ohafia community which included the ongoing building of a community town hall at Ukwa Nkporo, assistance he has rendered to secure jobs for people of Ohafia extraction, having over 30 students from Ohafia LGA under his full free tuition scholarship scheme, he recalled he is driven from his heart to assist people because he came from a poor background.
On what he seeks to achieve, Prof. Ibe said he has approached Nigeria Army on releasing part of the large expanse of land they collected from Ohafia LGA to enable the building of a befitting stadium of repute to increase the viability of the people, he also stated he shared ideas with Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa on how they will collaborate in consulting the government on managing the marginal oil fields from Akwa Ibom through Arochukwu/Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi to Nnewi.
He added that if opportune, he will decentralize the government as he intends to do so by building Government house annex in the 17 LGAs of the Abia State where Exco meetings will be rotated in the 17 LGAs of the State.
Prof. Ibe invited all to be free to study his Manifesto and come up to speed with his practical achievable development plans to build from where our present government of Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu stops
He therefore affirmed that he was seriously in the race for the Governor of Abia State come 2023.
Responding on behalf of Abiriba Clan, a Hon Okoro Okereke , described Prof. Greg Ibe as a consummate achiever and thanked God for gifting the people of Abia North in particular and humanity in general a humane character and personality.
He described him as eminently qualified to maximize the fortunes of Abia State.
In his words, Chief Udo Kalu, while responding on behalf of Ohafia Clan said he was now sure that the State has a personality who will shoulder its responsibilities and appreciated his kind heart towards mankind decrying the state of roads, water and electricity in and out of Ohafia LGA and requested that he should not forget these challenges when his quest for governor comes through.
Speaking on behalf of NkporoCclan, Engr. Okali Oge commended the towering achievements of Prof Greg Ibe describing him as loaded, adding that Abia State and Nigeria need more people like Prof Ibe. He assured him of their one 100 percent support.
Chief Mrs Utari Nma Uduma who spoke on behalf of women, decried the condition of women who, according to him, bring in the bulk votes during elections but “are relegated to the background when it matters most”.
She asked Prof. Ibe to look into the matter seriously when he succeeds and disclosed that with her experience at Gregory University Uturu, the PDP hopeful will make an outstanding governor.
Representative of youths, Comrade Roland Imaga, thanked Prof Ibe for his presentations and urged him to ensure that the Abia Charter of Equity is strictly adhered to.
He assured him of the support of the youth of Ohafia.
The highpoints of the event was the sharing of Prof Greg Ibe’s manifesto to the people of Ohafia.
