The Chancellor and proprietor of Gregory University, Uturu, (GUU), Prof Greg Ibe, has been nominated as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State.
Prof Ibe scored 283 votes to beat his closest rival, Mr Etigwe Uwa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who got 148 votes while a retired army chief, Major Gen Ijeoma N Ijeoma received 36 votes.
Similarly, an internationally acclaimed security consultant, Chikwe Udensi scored 12 votes. Announcing Prof Ibe as the winner of the Primary Election held at the Kolping Society of Nigeria conference centre, Umuahai, the Chief Returning Officer for the APGA Governorship Primary for Abia State, Mr Echezuna Etiaba said a total of 482 delegates were accredited while three votes were void.
Etiaba, the son of the former Deputy Governor of Anamba State, Virgy Etiaba, described the Primary Election as free, fair and credible.
In his acceptance speech, Prof Ibe thanked the delegates as well as the entire APGA family at the state and national levels for their support and also foe voting for him en masse, assuring them that he will carry everyone along if elected governor of Abia State in 2023 governorship election.
The APGA governorship candidate of Abia State pledged to make Aba the hub of industrial estate, saying that the city will be resurrected from its present comatose state to city of that will compete with major industrial cities of the world in terms of trade and commerce.
