The “anointed” aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne has finally purchased the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at the Wadata House, Abuja National Secretariat of the PDP.
Ikonne, the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) bought the forms on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 with a group of PDP chieftains and key Abia State government officials who accompanied him to Abuja.
The forms will enable him to contest for the Abia State gubernatorial primary, even as the controversy over his choice as the preferred aspirant continues to generate heat in the state wing of the PDP and the entire state.
Those that accompanied him to the Wadata House were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt Hon Christopher Enweremadu, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Don Ubani, former Director-General of Ikpeazu Governorship Campaign Council, Elder John Nwagborogwu, and Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, amongst many others.
Ikonne, in his remarks after picking the forms said Abia under his watch as Governor will witness accelerated development and peace like it is under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, adding “the state will also witness effective governance”.
Ikonne is an Optometrist and a career academia. He rose from the lecturer’s cadre to serve as Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu. Earlier, he served as a Redeeming Rector, Abia Polytechnic before his appointment as VC, ABSU.
He has put in 36 years of service as an academia and was recently appointed Chairman, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board, ODORBN by President Mohammadu Buhari
He hails from Umuode Nsulu in Isiala-Ngwa North LGA of Abia Central Senatorial District in Abia State.
