How Rotary Club Rewarded A Kid Philanthropist

For exemplifying the principles of giving, a 10 year-old lad, Master Ochoiheoma Megwara has become “A One Star Paul Harris Fellow” of the Rotary Foundation.

 Little Ochoiheoma, an indigene of Umuoshi, Umuekwule, Afugiri Ohuhu Clan, in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, is neither a Rotary President-elect nor an Assistant Governor, but a son that accompanied his father, the immediate past President of Rotary Club of Umuahia Central District 9142 Rtn Sunny Megwara to the Year 2020 Presidents-elect Training Seminar, PETS held in Owerri, Imo State.

 The then District Governor-elect, DGE Ndukwe Chukwu encouraged all participants to support the Rotary Foundation through cash donations to enable the District 9142 meet up with her target of twenty five thousand US Dollars to the Rotary Foundation which he will pay at the beginning of the Rotary Opens Opportunities year of service.

 He never imagined that a 10-year-old lad, Master Ochoiheoma would walk up to him on stage with confidence and courage, and give him N3,000 to support his appeal for all to give to the Rotary Foundation.

 The heroic act of the little boy, who became the cynosure of all attendees, moved the then DGE Ndukwe Chukwu who on the spot called on Rotarians to support Ochoiheoma’s gift for him to be named a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation.

 Presenting the Paul Harris Fellow Award to little Ochoiheoma Megwara in Umuahia during an evening of appreciation ceremony organized by the Rotary Club of Umuahia Central, District 9142, a Past District Governor, PDG Ijeoma Pearl Okoro lauded the actions of the child and immediately made a financial support for the status of little Master Ochoiheoma to be upgraded to a one Star Paul Harris Fellow, PHF.

 PDG Pearl Okoro said the gesture was part of her consistent demonstration that the future of Rotary is safe in the hands of the younger generation and reiterated her resolve to do everything positive to inspire the younger generation by using master Ochoiheoma as a point of inspiration.

 She also commended Master Ochoiheoma’s parents, Rtn and Mrs Sunny Megwara for their selfless commitment and believe in the Rotary Foundation.

 In his speech shortly after the recognition and elevation, little Master Ochoiheoma Megwara stated that he gave to the Rotary Foundation because he loves giving what he has for the good of the other.
