Speaker Chinedum Orji And The Culture of Humanitarianism

Surely, he is not your around-the-street extrovert, but he possesses that charisma, candour and philanthropy that can galvanise extroverts and introverts to a complex web of credibility and respectability. Undeniably, his first duty, since he came to public space, is to lend men and women to the culture of success and good living.

That is the Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly. His recent outing to flag off the construction of a mini stadium at Isieke Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, which he facilitated, is one of his benevolence which his orthodoxy against delinquent jiving and boisterousness have proven right.

Rather than waste his precious time sailing in wanton jocundity, Chinedum Orji believes in planting what will benefit the society at the long run: hence his numerous humanitarianism. At the risk of running commentary on him by presenting subserviently all that he has done since his adulthood, particularly since he ventured into the murky waters of politics about 20 years ago, it is safer to say that the mini stadium he is building will give sports development in Isieke, Ibeku and indeed the city of Umuahia the desired boost.

Through sports, the younger generation can be redirected and refocused. Those who are talented amongst them will benefit from the multi million dollar financially inducing binge, while those not gifted in this business of amusement could drink from the joy and happiness it attracts. Suffice it to say that the multiplicity of its benefits will seriously impact positively on the host community and Abia State as a whole.

The groundbreaking and foundation stone-laying ceremony of the mini stadium which is one of the numerous projects Rt Hon Chinedum Orji has attracted and executed in Umuahia town was held recently. It actually attracted the crème de la crème of the round leather game and those in other sports, captains of industries as well as people in government.  Despite the fact that Chinedum Orji represents Umuahia Central State Constituency, he allowed the mini stadium to be built in a sister State Constituency, Umuahia East State Constituency.

It was indeed a time to commend the philanthropic gestures of the Abia Speaker who is also the son of Ibeku land and whose forebears were noted for their benevolence. This was acknowledged by the traditional prime minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Chief Uche Agwugwuegbu who noted that Orji has combined intelligence with benevolence which have endeared him to the people.

It is obvious that when the project is completed, football stars will emerge out of it. After all, the likes of Karibe Ojigwe, former Nigeria’s international humbly started from a mini stadium in his Item locality before becoming a world star. Ojigwe, himself who was a special guest at the event, lauded  Rt Hon Chinedum Orji for commencing the construction of the project that is “capable of producing world class stars”

As a Speaker committed to youth development and a sports lover, I’m impressed that he decided to give back to the youth what the society has given him”. In fact, the youths of Abia State are blessed to have him at this time because he’s simply showing class, candour, benevolence and leadership”.

Erstwhile Director of Sports in the state and sports of analyst of note, Mr Ejikeme Ikwunze (Mr Football) underlined the fact that the best way to empower the youth is to refocus them through the ways and parts of sports, even as he asserted that “Abia Speaker through this has exhibited genuine love to sports development and to youths of Nigeria who will benefit from stadium.

“He has enhanced the spirit of sports development in Umauhia and Nigeria by building the mini stadium, he remarked. It’s a grass root legacy that will generate serenity and sanity amongst the youths in the city”.

A prominent son of Ibeku land and former commissioner in Abia State, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya noted that the project will go a long way in “bringing out the hidden talents in our youth”. Continuing Obonnaya said, “for this project sited in a place outside your immediate constituency, you, our Speaker, have shown that you’re not a sectional leader, but a leader with a large heart.

“This is perfect example of quality representation. Our brother, the Speaker and lawmaker representing Umuahia Central Sate Constituency is extending the hand of philanthropy and fellowship to the people of Umuahia East Constituency. He’s largehearted and wants to develop everywhere in the state”, he opined.

Similarly, the chairman of Umuajiji Isieke Ibeku, the host community, Bernard Enyinnaya believed that the project will impact positively on the lives of the youth of the area. “We assure you that this project will be protected by our local security outfit. The chairman, Nigerian society of Engineers (NSE), Umuahia chapter, Okeke Ude Olugu, and another engineer, Chris Chima Ogbonna, Chima Solomon, Lady Ifeyinwa Umezurike, who also spoke at the event praised the Speaker for making his “Direct Touch” initiative to have direct impact on both the adult and the youth.

In fact, the full significance of the mini stadium will obviously hinged on the overall interest and development of the Abia youth as it will eventually serve as a vehicle and springboard to develop that outskirt of  Umuahia, the capital city.
