Presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Southeast geopolitical zone have agreed to work together to ensure that a Southeasterner emerges as the party’s flag bearer.
The aspirants, who met in Abuja at weekend on a consensus talk were, former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, former president of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and Nwachukwu Anakwenze.
One of the aspirants, Oliva Diana Teriela was, however, absent from the meeting, but Anyim said more aspirants from the South East would join the team in due course.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting Anyim said, “we have agreed to work together as a team. We will work together to ensure that a South Easterner emerges as PDP flag bearer.”
He disclosed that the team intends to consult with other zones on the issue of presidential ticket of the PDP, which it said should be on fairness and equity
His word: “In doing so it is important to note that we have always supported other zones and we now expect them to reciprocate.”
The Southeast aspirants however said they have not been able to arrive at a consensus but could get there soon.
On whether they were working with the two PDP governors from the Southeast zone, Anyim said only those governors of Southeast can answer questions on whether they are with us.
