Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo fondly called Sunday Igboho was released today, Monday 7, 2022 by authorities of Benin Republic due to health grounds, his lawyer, Yomi Alliyu said.
He was handed over to another Yoruba activist, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran to guarantee his security.
Igboho spent 231 days in detention in the Benin Republic. His lawyer said “He was allowed to visit his doctors in Cotonou. He was only released to be treated in a hospital. The last I spoke, I told you we’re making arrangements to take care of his health. So, he was released on health grounds”.
Igboho was campaigning for the creation of Oduduwa Republic before he was arrested in Benin Republic while trying to flee Nigeria.
It will be recalled that the Activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba Leader and Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran.
The Communications Secretary to Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye confirmed this in a press statement on Monday.
The Yoruba group described the release of Ighoho as a Triumph of Truth over Darkness in Yoruba Land.
